Global

One third of the world's population is infected with TB but does not have the disease. According to WHO estimate in 1995 there were about 3 million deaths attributable to tuberculosis.

Most of these cases (95%) and TB related deaths (98%) were in the developing countries.

There are about 15 - 20 million infectious (sputum positive) cases of TB in the world.

India

  • Population infected with TB : 300 - 350 million (33%)

  • Number of active TB cases (Disease) : 12 - 15 million
